Software Engineer (Contractor)
Survey 160 seeks a remote contract Software Engineer to be a key contributor to our growing team. Survey 160 is a research company that builds and uses proprietary software to conduct live interviewer SMS surveys for elections, public policy, academic, and commercial topics. The Software Engineer will work with our engineering team to build new features for a well-designed, robust, scalable platform. Through this work, you will help Survey 160 achieve its mission of providing accurate and actionable public opinion research at affordable costs.
This role is ideal for someone with prior contractor experience and who is passionate about tech, software development, and advancing progressive values.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Own the execution of select features
Write, test, debug, integrate, and ship high-quality, well-documented code, both your own and others
Participate in project planning and scope estimation
Clearly communicate task progress and challenges to other team members
REQUIREMENTS
Multiple years of prior experience working on commercial software engineering within agile deployment environments
Up to date in modern programming methodologies, languages and tools
Ability to program in Python with experience using a web framework
Familiarity with at least one of: Flask Rest API, Celery task queue
Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking & communication skills
Self-motivated and able to work remotely
Believe in building an inclusive community with and for your coworkers
Experience working collaboratively as a contractor with teams of engineers, product managers, and other key stakeholders
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with specific technologies in our stack: PostgreSQL, Flask, Celery, ReactJS, Docker, Kubernetes
Familiarity with continuous deployment tools: CircleCI, github Actions
Experience with messaging APIs (e.g. Twilio, Bandwidth)
LOCATION
Survey 160 is a fully remote company; all applicants must be eligible to work in the United States and be able to virtually meet with other team members during US time zone working hours.
COMPENSATION
Compensation is based on experience and time commitment.
